If there’s one thing that connects all humans, it’s that everything we walk on, breathe, drink, and eat comes from the same source: planet Earth. From composting to cooking to taking climate action, today’s guests (including Chef Sean Sherman, comedian Jo Firestone, and activist Luisa Neubauer) share the many ways they try to connect to and protect the home we share-- and invite you to get involved in whatever way you can.

Forgiveness is a productivity accelerator. The great saints, sages, and spiritual geniuses all understood that a main aim on the path to awakening was to stand in any mess that life sends and remain centred, courageous, serene and free. As Robin Sharma wrote about in The 5AM Club, everyone alive does the best that they can based on where they're at in terms of their awareness and their understanding of life. And once you realize that, you won't be upset with them - you can begin to forgive them.So resolve to forgive those who have hurt you [they made you stronger and more noble]. And commit to letting go of what no longer serves you [it got you to here]. Remember that the past was perfect preparation for you to become who you now are and to grow the extraordinary life that you now face …

I love my parents. I grew up with a world-class education. And yet, nobody actually ever taught me how to be an adult. As a result, I made a ton of avoidable mistakes. I suffered far more than necessary. And I fumbled in the dark for years until eventually, I figured a few things out. Unfortunately, my experience is all too common. Today’s guest—a woman who spent years mentoring and advising some of the brightest young people in the entire world—would agree, so she decided to do something about it. Julie Lythcott-Haims is the former dean of freshmen and undergraduate advising at Stanford University, where she earned her B.A. (as my classmate) before obtaining a law degree from Harvard and a master’s in fine arts and writing from California College of the Arts. Today Julie is an author and authority on what we now call—in …

This episode I describe science-supported nutrients for brain and performance (cognition) and for nervous system health generally. I describe 10 tools for this purpose, including specific amounts and sources for Omega-3 fatty acids which make up the "structural fat" of neurons (nerve cells) and allow them to function across our lifespan. I also review data on creatine, phosphatidylserine, anthocyanins, choline, glutamine and how they each impact brain function in healthy people seeking to reinforce and improve their cognition and in those combatting cognitive decline. I describe both food-based and supplement-based sources for these compounds, and their effective dose ranges based on peer-reviewed literature. Then I review the 3 factors: gut-brain signaling, perceived taste, and learned associations that combine with the metabolic and blood-sugar-elevating effects of food to determine what foods we seek and prefer. Amazingly, it's not just about what tastes good to us. Next, …

n meditation, we talk about being in the present moment, because a lot of our struggles come from repetitive thought patterns. But that does not mean we can never allow ourselves to be with a memory. The difference is how we engage with it. Today, let yourself follow the memories, and notice what comes up. Learn more about your ad choices. Distraction is one of the top complaints of meditators -- and of pretty much every human being, in this era that has been dubbed the “info blitzkrieg.” In this episode, we’ll hear from Dr. Amishi Jha, who has spent years studying the impact of meditation on people who work in high stress professions and has collaborated with the military, first responders, and elite athletes. Her new book is about how to, in her words, focus without all the struggle, take back your attention from the pull of distraction, and function at your peak. Dr. Jha is Professor of Psychology at the University of Miami, the Director of Contemplative Neuroscience for the Mindfulness Research and Practice Initiative, and author of a new book called Peak Mind: Find Your Focus, Own Your Attention, Invest 12 Minutes a Day. In this episode, Dr. Jha talks about: peak mind; …

Today’s episode is a little bit different. Recently I had the pleasure of being on Dr. Caroline Leaf’s podcast Cleaning Up The Mental Mess. We’ve had Dr. Leaf on the show a few times this year and I really value her expertise as a Neuroscientist. Make sure to check out my two previous interviews with her if you haven’t yet. I really enjoyed our conversation and wanted to share the episode on my show because I think it’ll help those of you who are holding onto traumas and going through struggles. In this episode we discuss why we need to face the past to move forward and how I opened up about being sexually abused, the importance of connecting with our inner child, what happens in the brain when we deconstruct & reconstruct trauma, the importance of therapy and the different ways it can help you, …

Jane Goodall ON: Winning the War on Nature & How Simple Actions Make Big Changes
On Purpose with Jay Shetty
Jane Goodall sits down with Jay Shetty to talk about her passion and love for nature and wildlife. She believes that all of us have the power to make a difference around us and impact our surroundings significantly. And as we continue to hope in the most trying times of our lives, when we take action, this hope turns into change, into a success, and into a celebration. Jane is an ethologist known for her long-term research on the chimpanzees of Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park. In 1995, the University of Cambridge awarded her a Ph.D. in ethology, one of the few candidates to receive a Ph.D. without having first possessed an A.B. degree. She established the Jane Goodall Institute to help support the Gombe research and the Roots & Shoots program for the youth to actively participate in environmental, conservation and humanitarian issues.Achieve success …
