VALIDATION IS REDUNDANT. As many of you know, I didn’t have friends growing up. I couldn’t read and write until late high school. I was goofy and gangly. I got made fun of all the time. Sports was something I could finally understand. I was able to prove myself by what I could accomplish on the field. But then I placed my self worth in what I could achieve in football. If I lost a game, I felt terrible. If I won, I felt great. It was so unhealthy. We need to be careful where we get our self-worth. Instead of earning it through outside validation, we should get it from the kindness in our heart, the positivity that we bring, and who you are. Learn to have unconditional love for yourself. On today’s episode of The School of Greatness, I talk about self with …
Conflict is inevitable, but conflict can be productive. Everyone gets into fights and arguments but that doesn't mean your relationship is unhealthy or in trouble. On this episode, we talk about fighting fair instead of fighting dirty. Some of us fight with the misconception that we MUST win the fight to succeed. Sometimes we fight for no good reason at all. We take off the boxing gloves and talk about fighting best practices so you can make the most out of your arguments instead of keeping score or going for a TKO. This is a story of mistakes made. Of penance served. And the hard wrought path to atonement, self-forgiveness, and ultimately redemption. It begins with a young, standout volleyball player. A smart guy who later joins the Air Force, spending nearly two years at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA studying Korean. His career looked bright. But it wasn't long before Chris Schuhmacher started making some bad decisions. A laundry list of errant decisions, in fact, that deposited him into a dark, hard partying crowd in Hollywood. Decisions that led to dealing weed to support that lifestyle. And decisions that ultimately culminated in a suitcase of drugs under his dispatch being stolen from him. In a drug and alcohol fueled rage, desperate and fearing the consequences should he be unable to retrieve the contraband, Chris took another manʼs life. And for that offense he was …
